We're proud to announce that Jean Hanks, our registered dietitian, has earned the Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) credential, formerly known as the Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE).
This is a demanding, nationally recognized certification awarded by the Certification Board for Diabetes Care and Education. To qualify, a clinician must already hold a professional license or registration, have at least two years of practice, complete a minimum of 1,000 hours of hands-on diabetes care and education, finish continuing education focused on diabetes, and pass a rigorous national exam. The credential must be renewed every five years, so certified specialists stay current as treatments and technology evolve.
For our patients, this means Jean brings expert-level knowledge of every aspect of diabetes management, not just nutrition. She can help you understand your medications, make sense of glucose monitor and CGM data, prevent and manage highs and lows, adjust your eating around exercise, illness, and travel, and build habits that hold up in real life. Her training complements the medical care you receive here and makes our team even better equipped to support patients with diabetes, prediabetes, and weight-related metabolic conditions.
