What Is a Lipidologist?
A lipidologist is a healthcare provider who focuses on diagnosing and treating disorders of fats (lipids) in the blood, including cholesterol and triglycerides. They take a preventive approach to heart health, with expertise in evaluating and reducing the risk of atherosclerosis (buildup of plaque in the arteries), heart attacks, and strokes. They use advanced lipid testing and imaging to comprehensively evaluate cardiovascular risk, and create personalized treatment plans including lifestyle modifications and specialized medication management.
Lipidologists see patients who have extremely high lipid levels or levels that are not responding to first-line medications, inherited lipid disorders, or side effects with lipid-lowering medications.
