Learn More About
Dr. Caroline Messer
Dr. Caroline Messer is a double-board certified endocrinologist and the founder of both Well by Messer and Fifth Avenue Endocrinology. In this page you can learn more about her non-medical interests and delve into her personal side that makes Dr. Messer one of the most loved doctors in New York City.
Sports
Dr. Messer began playing on the Ultimate Frisbee club team at Yale and has never stopped playing. Even during medical school, she could be found tossing a disc regularly in the “dust bowl”, a rather unkempt field in northern Central Park. She now plays on two leagues each week and loves imagining that all the running and jumping will spare her bones from osteoporosis. She is the corporate sponsor of the Gridlock, New York’s professional women’s ultimate frisbee team.
Dr. Messer also plays basketball 1-2 times per week. However, at 5’4” and with questionable hand-eye coordination, her skills are mediocre at best. Regardless, she loves running drills and shooting with her actually-talented son.
She also plays tennis 1-2x per week but still can’t serve or volley.
Dr. Messer has been training in mixed martial arts weekly for the past 10 years. Her husband has the bruises to prove it.
Once upon a time, Dr. Messer was a competitive figure skater. Now she uses her skills to show off in front of the other moms at the school’s annual skating party.
Music
Dr. Messer has been playing classical piano since age 5. Her greatest musical accomplishment was surprising her husband by learning his favorite piano piece as a birthday gift, Chopin’s Polonaise in A flat major. Her perfect date night involves a candle lit performance of all the Chopin etudes (with her husband, of course) followed by dinner at Estiatorio Milos.
Cooking
Dr. Messer loves to cook and just started a “cooking with Dr. Messer” Instagram series. She enjoys farm to table recipes and spending the afternoon chopping and dicing with her kids while Indigo Girls blasts on the speakers. The best part of cooking is that her husband willingly ties on an apron and cleans up everything afterwards.
Languages
Dr. Messer speaks English, French, Portuguese, some Spanish and some Hebrew. She plans to learn Italian and Arabic.
To keep up with her kids and husband, Dr. Messer has been “studying” Hebrew weekly since 2020. In fact, she just wakes up early every Sunday morning to cram vocabulary words before her 9am private lesson.
Pets
Dr. Messer has a weekend Havapoo named Gigi (long story).
