Get to Know Dr. Aren Skolnick
Why Did You Become a Doctor?
I became a physician because I genuinely enjoy helping people and wanted to dedicate my career to supporting patients through some of the most important and vulnerable moments in their lives. To me, being a doctor is about far more than diagnosing and treating medical conditions — it is about serving as a trusted source of guidance, education, reassurance, and support for both patients and their families. In today’s healthcare system, physicians are often under pressure to move quickly through appointments, leaving less time to truly focus on the individual patient and their concerns. I always knew I wanted to be the type of physician who takes the time to build meaningful, long-lasting relationships with patients, where they never feel rushed and feel comfortable discussing their concerns, asking questions, and openly sharing their medical history. I believe every person deserves individualized care and should feel heard, understood, and actively involved in their healthcare decisions. My goal has always been to create an environment where patients can confide in me, view me as a trusted source of support and guidance, and work together as a team to achieve better health, confidence, and overall quality of life through compassionate, personalized care.
What Made You Focus on Endocrinology?
I was drawn to endocrinology because of my fascination with the body’s intricate hormonal pathways and the way so many systems are interconnected. I have always enjoyed the challenge of mastering complex medical problems and working through how different symptoms, lab values, and physiologic processes fit together to form a complete picture. There is a unique fulfillment in identifying the underlying issue, developing a thoughtful treatment plan, and seeing the solution make sense both scientifically and clinically. I was also motivated by recognizing that many patients with hormonal and metabolic conditions often struggle to find comprehensive, individualized care, and I saw an opportunity to help fill an important and growing need for patients seeking thoughtful guidance and long-term support.
What Is Your Approach to Medicine?
My approach to medicine is centered on providing thoughtful, individualized care while building meaningful and long-lasting relationships with my patients. I believe that every patient’s experience, goals, and concerns are unique, and it is essential that they feel genuinely seen, heard, and supported throughout their healthcare journey. I place a strong emphasis on listening carefully to patients, understanding not only their symptoms but also how their condition impacts their daily lives and overall well-being. I am committed to educating patients about the diseases and conditions they are facing, helping them fully understand the risks, benefits, and expectations of all available treatment options so they can make informed and confident decisions about their care. My goal is to combine compassionate communication with evidence-based medicine, while also offering innovative therapies and advanced treatment options when appropriate, to help patients achieve the best possible long-term outcomes and quality of life.
How Would You Define Patient Care?
I define patient care as a collaborative partnership built on trust, communication, and individualized attention. No two patients are the same, and I believe effective medical care requires understanding each person’s unique health concerns, goals, lifestyle, and experiences rather than applying a one-size-fits-all approach. The relationship between a physician and patient should be rooted in mutual respect, trust, and camaraderie, where patients feel comfortable asking questions, openly discussing their medical history and concerns, and confident that they are being genuinely heard and supported. I believe the best outcomes come from joint and informed decision-making, with physicians and patients working together as a team to fully understand the condition at hand, review all appropriate treatment options, and create a thoughtful, personalized plan focused on achieving the best possible long-term health and well-being.
Do You Do Any Philanthropic Work?
As a physician, I believe it is important to give back to the community through education, mentorship, and service beyond the clinical setting. Throughout my career, I have participated in mentorship programs and community outreach initiatives focused on guiding students interested in healthcare careers and improving public understanding of medical and wellness topics. I value opportunities to share medical knowledge, promote awareness, and help individuals feel more informed and empowered about their health. Giving back through mentorship, education, and community involvement has always been an important part of my role as a physician and reflects my commitment to supporting others both inside and outside of the office.
